The practice has four associate and four assistant GPs as well as registrars. A practice manager, two full-time nurses, two part-time nurses, and several reception staff are employed by the clinic.
The GPs admit and manage medical patients, and provide obstetric and anaesthetic services for the Bairnsdale Regional Health Service.
The Centre is housed in a purpose built facility, consisting of a spacious waiting area, twelve consulting rooms, two procedure rooms, three nursing cubicles, an ECG room, modern kitchen/dining area and a large meeting/library room. A pathology provider is on site. Medical records are electronically stored using Medical Director and Zedmed software. Broadband access is available on all workstations.
The Centre is accredited for medical student, intern and registrar training. Supervisors hold regular formal teaching sessions.
The Monash University in Bairnsdale and Sale is a key partner in this Community Based Internship and will provide assistance with education and learning, including the use of Simulation Laboratories.
Some medical students from Year 2 complete a two week placement at Bairnsdale and 10 students complete the year 4C program at Bairnsdale. In addition, final year medical students (5D) are able to complete the core subjects of aged care, surgery and emergency medicine at Bairnsdale.
This is a fully accredited five doctor family practice providing the full scope of rural medical care. Doctors in the practice have interests in family and women’s health, men’s health, preventative medicine, emergency medicine and minor surgery including flaps and grafts.
The practice includes five part-time nursing staff, who are actively involved in health promotion, immunisation, recall systems, wound care, assistance with procedures and EPC consultations. There is a women’s health nurse and diabetes educator.
The practice is fully computerised including recall systems for diabetes, asthma, skin checks and pap smears. Lakes Entrance does not have a hospital, and consequently the practice is fully-equipped to deal with emergency presentations. A specialist radiologist is also available to the town. Allied health staff consult from the practice on a part-time basis.
The Centre is accredited for Registrar, medical student and PGPPP (PGY2) training.
There are 130 aged care beds in Lakes Entrance in two facilities, each with both high and low care beds and dementia care areas. Medical care is provided by the two general practices.
