• Bairnsdale Regional Health Service

    (BRHS) provides services including comprehensive primary care, acute care, aged care, community and home based health services to a growing population of 40,000 people across a land mass of 21,000 square kilometres.

    • Fraser ward is a 21-bed unit that predominantly admits general surgical patients, cared for by three general surgeons Bed occupancy in Fraser is generally around 75%.
    • Gabo ward is an 18 bed acute medical ward with cardiac monitoring available. Bed occupancy is 86%.
    • Rotamah ward is a 24 bed diverse unit comprising of maternity, paediatrics, palliative and general medical. Bed occupancy in Rotamah is 65%.
    • Flanagan ward is a 21 bed rehabilitation ward with 16 sub-acute beds and four acute beds. Its bed occupancy is 93%.

    In 2012-2013, there were 13,982 admissions to the hospital. Approximately 25% of admissions are emergency admissions and 61% are admitted for same day treatment. There were 18,390 attendances at the Emergency Department. This represents a 11.5% increase in admissions and a 13.8% increase in Emergency attendances since 2010-2011.
